Bubbling to the Surface?
“Surface” – Introduced by Microsoft as its own line of tablets on June 18th 2012. “Surface” comes in two versions: Surface RT running Win RT version which is a handy consumer device and Surface Pro running Windows 8 Pro version which is a competition to the light-weight laptops. The User Interface is “Metro” which has been the design platform for Windows Phone 7/7.5 and Windows 8. Metro design concept is based on colorful tiles, clean User Interface, light feel icons, fast and fluid, and many more rich specifications. Metro is a design concept well praised by the reviewers and well accepted by the consumers. “Surface” consumer device has a screen size of 10.6 inch and is termed as the perfect entertainment device without compromising the performance and productivity. As per the predictions, tablet sales is going to triple in the next two years and with more devices in hands, we feel that “Surface” has a great potential for growth.
The only question that matters is “how does it compare to the new iPad?” as we all want to compare the new player with the leader in the market. There have been a lot of lessons learnt with the Zune vs iPod failures and Mac Repairs or the Xbox vs Play Station/Wii success. The iPhone-iPad-Mac-iCloud story is pushing Microsoft to build an ecosystem around Windows 8 and Metro that will encompass your PC, phone and tablet so that you have the same User Experience across the board and you have the same applications/data on all devices. In the end, the only thing that will make me forgo my PC Laptop for work and iPad for fun world is if I can do what I do at home or work seamlessly with a single device, and it remains to be seen if that is the new Microsoft Surface!
