The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) published a “Free Cybersecurity Services and Tools” webpage, complied with a list of open-source tools and free resources to help organizations reduce cybersecurity risks and improve resilience. These tools and resources are provided by various private companies and government organizations of all sizes.
The U.S. Congress created CISA to identify threats, share information, and assist with incident response in defense of the nation’s critical infrastructure. It is responsible for monitoring and protecting the country’s critical infrastructure from physical and cyber threats.
The agency had advised organizations to fix known high-risk vulnerabilities, implement multifactor authentication, replace unsupported products, and reduce their internet attack surface before turning to the free tools and services. This was advised considering the cyberattacks endured by Ukraine’s government where most of the IT systems and government-owned website domains were defaced by suspected Russian cybercriminals.
The list includes roughly 100 tools and services including ones offered by open-source space, CISA’s repository and various organizations relevant to the cybersecurity sector. The tools catalog is the latest in a string of initiatives launched by CISA to combat cyber threats and help organizations adopt foundational measures.
CISA plans on continuously updating the list to help organizations improve their security posture. It will also create a process for third parties to submit other resources for inclusion in the future.
