This Virtual Hackathon was online ideation exercise to discover solutions that can help the nation rise as one in the fight against Covid-19, commonly known as the coronavirus.
As the effects of COVID -19 continue to increase and time of social distancing is yet to come to a halt, the society had shifted itself to a new normal – work from home. As this current situation can be a bit isolating, iLink organized the Web Hackathon intending to create an online space where developers can ideate, experiment, and build software solutions to help address this crisis. Despite being everything virtual, the participating teams were able to work together and come up with many novel ideas.
These novel ideas were evaluated online by a judging panel of iLink System. Among the judges were Guru Kandasamy – VP technology; Srikanth Gurunathan – Principal Director, Technology; Rushi Kulkarni – VP & GM; and Ritesh Kapadia – VP technology.
Uday Bhaskarwar, the Chief People Officer of iLink, spoke and mentored the participants before unveiling the winners of the Hackathon. He stressed up on the need of focused point solutions, commercial availability of any solution and the importance of articulation and elevator speech.
They unveiled one winning team – Christ, Prateek, and Prasanna currently working for a software company, along with two runners ups, which was a tie between Shahil Islam & team and Dhruv Upadhyay & team, both from SRM University, Chennai. The team that earned the top spotcame with an idea of an Air Sanitization Planner that uses a drone.
The event was a display of ingenuity of the bright minds of the country who came up with grounded and practical solutions associated with the pandemic. Though iLink Systems has successfully conducted Hackathons before, this was the first edition of the Web Hackathon. The event proved to be extremely successful in promoting innovation and out of the box thinking in
the technology-driven minds. iLink is planning to organize the next Hackathon as a global event in the coming months.
At the end of the day, the event was about dissolving the physical boundaries, energizing the community, and feeling motivated during this global crisis. Such a talented community of young minds with a constructive and positive attitude is what our nation needs at the moment.
